After Expressing Support for Trump, Congressman Bacon Announces Re-election Bid in October

Congressman Don Bacon held a community town hall at Liberty Middle School, Papillion, on October 5 where he spoke on the the topic of impeachment for President Donald Trump.

Trump has withheld military aid approved for Ukraine, according to an official White House memorandum of a July phone conversation. President Trump urged the Ukrainian president to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son. U.S. election law makes it illegal to solicit, accept or receive a contribution, financial donation or anything of value from a foreign national, in any federal, state and local elections.

“There is no law that’s been broken,” Bacon said. He repeatedly insisted that no wrongdoing has been committed by the sitting President regarding his treatment toward Ukraine and its geo-political circumstances. When asked in what circumstances he would put country before party, Bacon answered, “Every single time,” which sparked laughter and boos.

October 5, Against Impeachment

During the public forum, Congressman Bacon said that he doesn’t approve what the president intended to do. Still if an impeachment vote were held, Bacon said he would vote no. The Omaha World-Herald reported that “the crowd was rowdy at times, with people yelling in opposition and others showing support for Bacon.”

October 24, RE-election bid

News broke that the two-term U.S. Representative is seeking re-elction to the Nebraska 2nd Congressional District. Don Bacon took questions from news outlets and said, “We see what it’s like to have Nancy Pelosi in charge of the House [of Representatives] and people to her left—like Kara Eastman—running the House. We have a dysfunctional Congress right now. Nothing is getting done, except for impeachment. I don’t think Americans want that. They want to see a country solving important issues, and right now that is not happening.” Bacon explained his winning strategy, “We have a few hundred volunteers already in our campaign, which matches what we had in 2016, when we had the best volunteer grassroots program in the country. That’s how we won against an incumbent in ‘16.”

Candidates who are seeking to unseat Congressman Bacon in the partisan race are:
