Announcement: Welcome to Our First Interns!
We are proud to welcome our first-ever NOISE interns, Samantha Aguilar and Madison Johnson! NOISE is committed to diversity in media and ensuring representation from traditionally marginalized voices and we are excited to have these two young women join our team. We asked them to share a bit about themselves so you can get to know them!
Hi everyone,
My name is Samantha Aguilar and I am a new NOISE Maker. I am a native Omahan, Peruvian, and first-generation American. I am currently entering my second year studying journalism at Northwestern Medill School of Journalism. I love traveling, writing and watching movies. Telling and hearing stories has always been a large part of my life and inspired me to become a journalist.
As an intern at NOISE, I will be reporting on and sharing the stories of the North Omaha community.
With recent events that have shed light on the injustices Black Americans face every day, it is more important than ever to ensure the media does not create or perpetuate harmful rhetoric about communities they do not understand. That is why I am constantly inspired by young journalists who have seen the flaws in the media today and are working to create inclusivity in the newsrooms they will enter.
I’m proud to be part of NOISE because as a publication, it covers sensitive issues responsibly and with empathy.
I am looking forward to providing residents of Omaha with a blend of news and information that is most beneficial and relevant to them.
