COPE helps those in Douglas County, but outside of Omaha with Rental Assistance
The State of Nebraska is now accepting applications for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, for those outside of Douglas County.
A temporary eviction moratorium was extended by the CDC for counties with “substantial” transmission rates. According to the CDC’s Integrated County View map, Douglas County has a high (above substantial) rate. Select your state and county to see the map.
The Douglas County Tenant Assistance Project will have an informational meeting on Zoom on August 11, 2021, to provide pro-bono representation to low-income tenants. Zoom information will be included in your email after registration.

Vaccine Reaction Concerns?
There has been some concern about people having severe allergic reactions to the Pfizer vaccine. It’s important to understand this reaction happened to just two people who had a history of anaphylaxis reactions to food. They were both treated with an Epi-pen and recovered.
A document published by the F.D.A. regarding the Pfizer vaccine showed
0.63% of people who got the vaccine reported potential allergic reactions, but 0.51% of people who received a placebo also reported such reactions.
Out of the 18,801 participants in Pfizer’s latest trial who received the vaccine, only one had an anaphylactic reaction, according to safety data published by the F.D.A. on Tuesday. None in the placebo group did.
The Pfizer vaccine is most likely to be widely distributed in Nebraska in the near future, click here for more information on this specific vaccine.
The current research for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines shows that it causes the body to form antibodies greatly protecting you from getting sick with covid-19 symptoms. However, researchers do not yet know for sure if it keeps you from being infected by the virus. For this reason, even if you get a vaccine soon, you should still wear a mask in public and around vulnerable friends and family to avoid asymptomatically spreading the virus. Click here for a short radio story from NPR about researchers’ hopes that the Moderna vaccine will protect against infection, not just symptoms.
